Lovely Stores ~ Curious Sofa

If you are in Kansas City or live close enough to make a road trip, you should definitely put Curious Sofa on your list of places to visit. I am lucky enough to live a short drive from Curious Sofa, so I try to visit often.

Curious Sofa is one of the most unique retail environments I have shopped in ~ always a gorgeous array of unique goods ~ an eclectic mix of old and new ~ everything displayed in clever and beautiful ways. Debbie Dusenberry is the owner and creative force behind Curious Sofa ~ she and her staff always make you feel welcome when you walk in the door ~ if you are lucky you may also get to meet Pearl, the shop's pretty canine mascot.

You can see more of the shop at the curious sofa website or at the blog, curious sofa diaries ~ Debbie also writes a blog about being a shop owner ~ all worth a visit! Below are a few shots I've taken while visiting.....

{the entrance ~ many times the doors are open}

{gorgeous display of shells this summer}

{relaxing & beautiful bedroom vignette}

{eclectic assortment of prints, frames and planters}

{need a key? ~ how can you resist?}

{lovely spring garden display}

{jewelry displayed in vintage muffin tin and type tray}

{shots above from the 'estate sale' this summer ~ I missed the opening as I had to work!}

{Halloween open house invitation}

This past weekend was the Halloween open house ~ which I was not able to get to ~ curses! I will have to make a trip there this weekend instead ~ if you want a sneak peek, go here. Halloween is at its best at Curious Sofa!

Sprocket goes to Sparks

Sprocket ~ my wheaten Scottish terrier puppy ~ is developing an addiction to flea markets and antique shows just like the rest of the family ~ Sparks was his first all day outdoor show! As you can see, he has a discriminating eye for all things scottish ~ he selected several high quality items, but was short on cash........

{great foldup metal picnic table in a stylish plaid}

{wonderful "wee scottie" ~ photo via Robert Baker}

{artisan made stuffed scottie}

After several hours of shopping and fraternizing, Sprocket had lunch and then decided a nap was in order ~ any vendors' booth would do, but he was partial to those in the shade.

A trip to the Dairy Barn was necessary for some rejuvenation.......

Quite a menu to choose from ~ almost got the mexican lunch box, but decided the deep fried burrito wasn't going to sit well in his scottish stomach, so he settled on the complimentary soft serve instead. All in all, a great day for everyone!

{Quite the satisfied customer!}

Sparks Flea Market ~ Fall 08

Last weekend was the semiannual flea market at Sparks & White Cloud ~ this time around I didn't make it to White Cloud, just Sparks. The weather was gorgeous, so it made for a great day to be outside and doing what I love! Below are a few images so you can get a taste of what the flea market was like this year. I'll share with you some of my purchased treasures in a later post.

{great glassware}

{rustic display}

{wonderful quilt}

{nice set of wooden soldier pins and balls}

{beautiful display of worn softballs in a wire basket}

{simple vintage goods}

{glove forms ~ $15 each!}

{great wooden chest of drawers ~ I really wanted this, but have no space for it anywhere!}

No trip to Sparks or White Cloud is complete without at stop at the Dairy Barn! A burger and a chocolate malt put the perfect touch on a perfect day!
