Hrm.. When I hear "Mac Pro", I think of a giant behemoth of a computer, with super internals for crazy processing power for graphics design or whatever your poison may be..
Actually, you can get by with a mid/high level iMac now for most graphic design needs (photoshop, illustrator, etc) these days and even average video editing needs
MacPros are really now for higher end video and 3D applications or those that really need to get their work done fast and rendered fast.
Funny though, one of the 3D companies that works in our building actually bought high end iMacs last year and they use them for Maya and they work great they said...I think we're at a plateau for a lot of apps in what you can do with them and the latest gen processors in the iMacs, MBPros are somewhat overkill for a lot of people already.

A free phone or a BOGO phone would help Apple tremendously -- but, at the end of the day, they simply cannot compete with the number of providers running Android right now.
Each Android phone tries to outdo the competition on a monthly basis, and they pump millions of dollars into advertising it as the most amazing thing ever.
It's all about the average consumer -- the average consumer is bombarded by ads for **** like "The THUNDERBOLT!" or the new HTC Compassion/Inspire/GagInducingName. The average consumer walks into a Verizon store when his contract is up and is told he can get an Android phone for free if he signs up for 2 years, or that he can get a free Android phone for his wife/kid if he buys one for $99.

I called two Apple stores in my state (Connecticut) and both are out. Available from their website with free shipping but a 2 to 3 week delay in shipping.
I ordered one from the Apple store on Nov 3rd, and it shipped on Nov 16th. So it looks like their estimates are somewhat accurate.
I haven't really put mine through a full test yet, but I will post a review once I have. So far it seems to work as advertised.

NO, Apple did not invent the first GUI Operating System. Xerox made the first GUI in their Alto systems. Xerox only sued (late for that matter) when Apple sued Microsoft for their GUI OS (Windows).

Not PC guys, but good industrial and interface designers will. Starting with a clean sheet with little or no knowledge on the subject is an advantage; you tend to have different perceptions on how things work/could work. This gives a far greater idea base with simpler implementations as a result.
Advantage Apple.
So Apple has an advantage here because they have no experience in a market where it traditionally takes to get a device right? No, Apple doesn't have an advantage, any more than they did with the iPod - but they didn't need that advantage then either.
Apple could change the way phones are made as well, but only if they rethink the device from the ground up. Most phones have too many features that it takes too long to figure out how to use, don't have enough battery life, and are too painful to get hooked up to your computer so you can transfer photos and songs back and forth. Apple has the synchronization stuff down. If you can sync it like an iPod - and charge it in the process, its already leaps above most phones out there. But they cannot miss the interface.
If they want a camera on it (optional in my opinion) they have to make it dirt simple to use (scroll wheel to zoom, middle button to snap) and to get the photos taken on it into iPhoto. Otherwise, skip it altogether. And please don't make me fumble around to find the right button to hit to answer a call. Open it to answer the call, close it to hang up. And if you aren't going to put the number buttons in a tranditional layout - don't put them on there at all. I don't have the time or energy to learn some idiotic circular arrangement. I'd rather you put the numbers up on a touch screen and let me smudge up my phone than deal with a non-standard button arrangement. It also has to be hearty - I don't have time for a phone that stops working if I drop it 3 feet onto a carpeted floor.

Was having problems getting sophos to complete a scan without bringing the MBP to a standstill and require a reboot... I read that thread and everything worked as it shouild. It has given me no other problems.

This is for a development in the future and the cost may not go up.

BTW: I do find it funny that you want to fault Apple for "gaming" a field that they clearly did not want to be in.

The Pro type tower boxes with separate monitor are just big clunky boxes.
They take up desk space or are usually hidden under the desk.

I think the iMac will take care of gamers and builders.. the mac pro is NOT a gaming device, it is a high class workstation that is designed for use with using and manipulating multi-threaded pro and audio apps.. Personally, I could care less about a new case design.. right now I just care that I can prolong the 6-core machine I have now.. and for my purposes, which are far and few between, the 6 core does everything I throw at it for a DAILY, email based machine.. I use it for dvd encoding, NO VIDEO EDITING(this area does not interest me one iota). If anything, i would use it for photography and everyday stuff, such as internet surfing, researching, writing books, etc.
I only got this for its expandability, as I despise an all in one machine like the iMac - if the screen goes, the whole thing needs to be replaced or repaired.. all in one desktops such as the imac are a dead end as one can't upgrade the processor easily if not at all..
Everyone please excuse me for my attitudes, I am going through a real tough time right now and have 103 temperature at the moment.

Well whatever Apple puts inside that 'tablet' thing, I want it to be named as 'Newton'.. That is the name the product deserves, something with respect to Apple's own history..
We should be done with the cheap code-names like iTV and etc.. Newton is 'Apple-ish' enough...
For the spec side, all I want is a machine running a croped version of Mac OSX that can be used as a GSM cellphone and can surf internet via WiFi.. We already got iPod for music, so we dont need tens of gigabytes of storage.. 4-8gb is fair enough for a device like this..

Socketed CPUs are higher (not a good idea in a laptop). Soldered also gives better connections, which may be important since a laptop is likely to be used in more diverse environments. Like outside, in hot sunshine, or while sitting at a freezing cold trainstation...

It's still a QUAD at $2,124. Even if it's 2 GHz, that's still utterly insane, especially when a *single* 2 GHz Woodcrest outperforms a 3.5 GHz Pentium 4 easily IIRC.
That is information what I am waiting for before calling it lame or excellent...
Another problem IMHO is that you now must buy a Quad config, if you want 2 HD's or a good grfx card.
Many people will pay for the 3rd and 4th core without ever using it.
I think Apple could have done with a Dual Core config (Conroe) as low-end Mac Pro machine: give the buyer the expansibility of a Pro machine, but keep the price in a pro-sumer level.
I wonder how much faster the Quad 2.66 really is than a Quad 2.5 GHz G5. Something tells me that Apple is usually rather positive regarding the new machines.... ;)

Ridiculous. Nothing is at all similar, aside from the bezel. But then if that's an "infringement" then all those digital picture frame makers can sue Apple for copying their "user interface". Honeycomb itself, the actual aspect ratio, none of that is similar. Get a grip Apple.

I agree that the convergence of data cap limits by commodity access providers and the evolving cloud of data are directly at odds, but ultimately the way around that will come from large grid wifi solution. Google has already started trying to do this.. and they and others will eventually make it happen the less available the current home and wiress providers are... You will be able to get wireless access in most places for free and use as much data as you want... The way the current bandwidth providers are going, it is absolutely going to happen.
They are going to essentially create their own demise. Yes bandwidth usage is going up, but the providers need to figure out how to keep up and stay with the changing times. Instead they are going in the opposite direction. These concerns about having all your data in the cloud and then streaming it is legitimate given current and future caps by providers... The fact is, most data centers do go for maximum redundancies without single points of failure on the hardware side.
When you have a massively parallele solution with custom software that is built to run on non-redundant hardware like Google built with their search engine, yeah, you can afford to skimp on hardware. They don't care if 1 node out of their 10000 fails, and the software doesn't see the impact. But that 1 specialised custom application is not an industry standard and is far from the norm in building data centers.

I would love one and would buy a tablet from apple if they came out with one. I take notes on all sorts of stuff, and its not efficient to scan my scribbles into a computer. I'm not a fast typer and frankly typing is harder on my hands than writing. As far as PDA's go they are not bad but the screens are too small for me and dont seem powerful enough (my experience with a dell axim).
I've been tempted by PC tablets, but they are often underpowered, limited to 14" screens, and fragile. I think if you got rid of these issues they would be a good all in one solution as opposed to the hybrid laptop/handheld that tablets are now which seems to combine the worst of both worlds.
Will apple release this? Only if they can find an angle, to convince consumers to buy it. It does seem like wishful thinking...:(

I like this guy. He's being reasonable. However, I'd bet that Apple does NOT update any other Macs to Core 2. Yet. Save that for Expo Paris.
Don't forget that apple dont just compete with themselves but other PC manufacturers now, and that release schedule would put them way behind. I expect speedbump/updated MBP and iMac at least. Probably on a random Tuesday soon.

All of the components would be low-end and 1-2 generations old. Basically, this is a wireless thin-client, but with enough additional resources to act as a low-end laptop.
