Vintage Redefined @ Vintiques!

Several weeks ago I visited Vintiques ~ a Kansas City shop that has recently reopened in the City Market. What fun ~ the space (located next to the Steamboat Arabia Museum) is full of wonderful finds and treasures that will please any artist looking for bits and pieces to incorporate in their work ~ or for that person who has an appreciation for interesting objects! Everything from castoff casters to vintage office items, miscellaneous game pieces and other oddments, antique lace, buttons and ephemera ~ you name it, there is something to appeal to everyone.

Sheila and Craig are the helpful and enthusiastic proprietors of this wonderful venture ~ not only do they have wonderful wares for sale, they also offer an array of workshops ~ check out the selection here. These look like so much fun I am going to have to find some time to squeeze a couple in. Vintiques is also going to participate in the upcoming spring show: Miss Frenchie's April in Paris. Everything really is up to date in Kansas City!

His & Hers Antiques

A few weekends ago Dick and I decided we needed a junking/antique fix, so we headed to the River Market Antique Mall amidst our Saturday errands ~ of course we spent much more time at the antique mall than we did doing errands ~ a great way to procrastinate!

Needless to say, I use the blog as an excuse to get out and keep up with any and all antique malls, flea markets and antique shows! So, armed with my trusty camera, we set out to explore the three story mall ~ it had actually been several months since my last visit so there were all sorts of things I didn't remember seeing before. Strangely enough, when I got home and looked at the photos I had taken, they sort of naturally fell into either a his or her category ~ I like both of course, but being someone who like things in order, I had to categorize them! At any rate, I think there would be something for everyone at the mall ~ below are some of the things I found interesting for one reason or another.

I guess I was drawn to these as we had recently seen There Will Be Blood with Daniel Day Lewis ~ in case you haven't seen it, all I'll say is that there is a creepy bowling scene in that movie.

Pennsylvania Countryside Travels

2009 seems to be off to a rather slow start with regards to blogging ~ don't know about you, but I am having a tough time returning to the daily grind ~ maybe the time off was just too much fun!

D & I made the traditional trip back to Pennsylvania to visit with my family ~ since I'm sure no one wants to see a dull showing of family xmas photos, I took a few photos here and there of places we visited instead. Of course, we were on a mission to hit three antique shops/malls and were on a schedule, so the photo time suffered in order to make time for shopping!

On one crisp, cold & very bright day, we set out from Lewisburg, PA and traveled to State College ~ about an hour away ~ our trip took us through some tiny rural towns & villages and beautiful countryside on our way to several antique malls and shops. We shared the roads with numerous horse & buggies as the central Pennsylvania area is home/farm to many Amish and Mennonite families - I would have liked to take more photos, but I felt uncomfortable doing it as I know the Amish and Mennonite people aren't big on photos.

So, a few photos of our day in the Pennsylvania countryside ~ it was relaxing and fun AND we also came away with quite a few treasures which I will post more about as I photograph them.

The last two photos were taken at the Dairyland Antique Mall in Reedsville, PA. We ate lunch at Sal-Lee's Restaurant ~ a country style informal family run establishment with a tasty looking selection of pies. We also visited Big Valley Antique Center ~ a rather large antique mall nearby ~ no photos from there as the exterior wasn't very photogenic ~ inside, the goods made up for the lackluster outside! After lunch we left Reedsville and headed towards State College to our last stop ~ Apple Hill Antiques ~ where I found the find of the day ~ an old encyclopedia filled with engravings ~ here is a copy you can buy on ebay!

Antique Shop ~ Parrin & Co.

If you're passing through the 45th & Stateline area in Kansas City, make sure to stop in and take a look at Parrin & Co ~ a lovely little store packed with all sorts of beautiful temptations. I dropped by several weeks ago and admired the Christmas displays ~ old religious statues(the crispier, the better) and miniature paintings, a shell encrusted cross, and anatomical fragments amidst an unusual selection of sacred heart ornaments displayed on tinsel trees. Below are a few shots from my visit.
